My haiku:
“A Poppy Blooms” by Katsushika Hokusai
I write, erase, rewrite
Erase again, and then
A poppy blooms.
For my second poster, I was asked to design a fictional movie poster. This poster was the same size 40cm by 40cm as my first poster, had to include text, and should display principles of color theory. I started by choosing a key theme from my haiku, I chose creation, and sketching various possible titles, wire frames, and poster designs.

After much consideration, I decided to base my poster around the sun. For me the sun relates to creation in a number of ways, firstly it symbolizes life and beginning, the start of a new day/something new, secondly it can be closely related to gods in various cultures, for example the king of the gods in ancient Egypt "Ra" was considered the god of the sun [1]. For my colors I decided to primarily use analogous colors of yellow e.g. Orange and Red, as well as black and white (two complementary colors that work well together) For the overall theme of the poster I decided to go with an action/thriller movie. I was heavily inspired by the original Jurassic Park poster (seen below) which also heavily used both yellow and red.

Like the original Jurassic Park poster I chose to have my main image (the sun) right in the middle of the poster, with the majority of my text (credit block) on the bottom. Inspired by various other movie posters, I also included my tagline on top of my image, and my title below. To create the poster I used Adobe Photoshop, and just like the Jurassic park poster, chose to have my background be completely black. This was done to make the sun stand out more. Another element I added to the poster, were a set of mountains in front of the sun, I felt as though this better emphasized the posters theme of creation and new life, with the sun now looking like it was rising up, the start of a new day. After brainstorming a number of various titles, the one I eventually chose was "After the Dark". One of the last additions to my first prototype of poster 2 was a large white oval behind the the main sun image. This oval was supposed to represent an eye of God, as a further way to represent the theme of creation, I later changed this oval to the outline of a gun in my final draft. Primarily due to me feeling as though the movies genre of being an action/thriller film was not being represented.
