Assignment 2
Haiku
These three posters were created around key themes I gathered from the following haiku
“A Poppy Blooms”
by Katsushika Hokusai
I write, erase, rewrite
Erase again, and then
A poppy blooms.
Poster 1: Visual representation
Key theme : Change
My first poster was created using analog techniques, mainly pencil, sharpie and crayon.
My objective with this poster was to create a composition using only simple shapes, and black and white, in order to represent my key theme of "change". The Gestalt principle of Repetition was also used on this poster. To represent change, I was inspired by the moon's many phases, and as such, chose to use circles as my simple geometric shape on this poster. My composition is static and angled to the right, to show that change is an ongoing and ever continuing process, with the circles changing from a Full moon (completely black) to a new moon (only the outline is colored). I chose to have the change happen right at the end rather than gradually, as I felt as though it would further show repetition was occurring in my design. Unfortunately due the Covid-19 lock down, I was unable to find any sheets of paper large enough to meet the 40cm by 40cm requirement, and as such had to stick two A4 pieces together. This is why there is a large crease/fold through my work.
